little kina was created during the first covid lockdown. Suddenly finding myself at home with our two small boys, I needed something to do in the evenings to relax and unplug from the world.

The first drawing I did was of a small kina shell found on the beach here in the Coromandel.

More drawings followed, then lino prints, then pottery.

My drawings are in pencil or ink.

The lino prints are made by carving onto a linoleum (lino) block. The block is then inked and printed by hand using a press.

Handbuilt ceramics basically refers to pottery created without the use of a throwing wheel.  Instead, it uses methods such as pinching, slab building, and coil building for the entirety of the piece.

Now my husband and I have 3 small children and all my pieces are made during nap times or in the evenings.

I have so many ideas and plans for little kina. I hope you enjoy the pieces as much as I enjoy the process of seeing them at completion.
